I was in the northern Eyre Peninsular in SA this weekend and decided to try the
whyalla - Iron Knob road for thick-billed Grasswren

I had tried a few times before with just fleeting glimpses, but this time the
birds were co-operative.

Over the 5kms from marker 45 - 40 I saw around a dozen or so birds, many paired
up and singing

I have put a couple of pics on my blog at:
http://tcphotosdotnet.blogspot.com/2010/07/lake-gilles-conservation-park.html

I also visited Lake Gilles, where the western specialities were keeping their
heads down!! I heard Rufous Treecreeper, but got no sign or sound of Western
Yellow Robin or Blue-breasted Fairywren, both seen here previously.

cheers

tony
