I object to the 'privatisation' of rare bird information. It also
sounds like the situation (in the UK) in the 80s when you had to phone
a number and wait through an interminable recorded message to find
where the rarities were. It's a step backwards.
If information about rarities is sent to Birding-aus then people can
read these very quickly by looking at the subject lines. Rarities not
in their area can be ignored. It is up to people how often a day they
check birding-aus, but each check requires far less time than a call
to a phone number.
Please could people continue to post news of rarities to Birding-aus
(consistent with the well-being of the bird and respect for private
property).
