Pallid Cuckoos in Alice Springs...

Having returned from two idyllic weeks of birding the Friesian Islands of
northern Holland, it was great to finally get home to The Alice where the
weather in my absence seems to have been decidedly... Dutch. The rain has
continued in Alice in the earlier part of the week and we even had a thick
fog earlier in the week. The Centre is still very much underwater with many
watercourses to the west still flowing and a bit of water still coming down
the Todd.

Ilparpa swamps are nice and full with plenty of White-faced Herons and
Black-winged Stilts. I had two Pallid Cuckoos sitting on power lines on
Ilparpa road just before the claypans, and a wee bit further on I had great
views of a soaring Black-breasted Buzzard as I passed through Honeymoon Gap.
Good to be home.
