Subject: Albino Eastern Reef Egret
On a recent trip to the Kimberley we came across an albino Eastern Reef Egret
which appears to be resident around the King George Falls area. Anyone
travelling to the falls might want to look out for it, it is quite an
interesting bird. At first I thought it was simply a white phase reef egret
but closer views revealed no pigmentation in the eye, beak or lores and almost
completely white legs. It was seen hunting below both 'halves' of the falls,
standing (quite impressively) on small rock ledges in the sheer vertical
cliffs, just above the water.
