The female Peafowl must have a male Peafowl around somewhere, or else
her chicks will be hybrids between her and the Silver !!??.
A couple of escapee sightings from the Hawkesbury area. This morning 18 May I
saw a suspected subadult male or female Silver Pheasant feeding adjacent to a
Lomandra grass garden in the grounds of Hawkesbury Hospital at Windsor, nw of
Sydney. Not 100% confident of the id as I dont have any references available
here but it had the red facial skin and rufousy upperparts of a female Silver
which I think rule out most other captive species present in Australia. Will
try for a further look.
Also in the area is a female Indian Peafowl with 2 dependent chicks present
around Kurrajong village. This bird has been present for a few months Ive been
told but has recently fledged at least two young.
