Dear Birding-Ausers,

BA-Vic is hosting the 2010 Birds Australia Conservation Forum. It is called "Connecting the Bush: From Backyards to Landscapes".

On Saturday 29 May, at The Philip Lecture Theatre, The University of Melbourne, learn about the state of Australia’s birds and new approaches to their conservation. See a series of expert presentations and participate in lively discussions on how we can best conserve Australia’s unique avifauna. This forum is a must if you are interested in conservation and its challenges in Australia today. This day-long forum brings together some of Australia’s leading academics and conservation organisations including Prof. Andrew Bennett (Deakin University), Paul Sinclair (Australian Conservation Foundation), Prof. David Paton (The University of Adelaide), Doug Robinson (Trust for Nature), Doug Humann (Bush Heritage Australia), Cheryl Gole and Holly Parsons (Birds Australia) and Brendan Sydes (Environment Defenders Office).

Birds Australia’s The State of Australia’s Birds 2009 report will be launched by Birds Australia CEO Graeme Hamilton and Member for Wills Kelvin Thomson MP. Afterwards, enjoy a social dinner with like-minded people following the forum, in the Grand Buffet Hall, Union House, The University of Melbourne.

On Sunday, two guided birdwatching excursions will take place. Visit Melbourne’s Western Treatment Plant, a world-class birdwatching destination; or search for the enigmatic Rufous Bristlebird at Anglesea, on Victoria’s spectacular Surf Coast.

For more details and online registration, visit http://www.birdsaustralia.com.au/whats-on/conservation-forum.html

So, have a look at the program and consider coming along to support Birds Australia in trying to raise the profile on our birds. If you have any queries, please feel free to e-mail me.

Chris (on behalf of the BA-Vic Organising Committee)
