I suspect that the Turkeys were free ranging birds that had wandered off as
they were a couple of kilometres from any farm buildings. What I found
interesting was that their behaviour - maintaining a very close formation
rather than foraging independently - seemed more like that of wild birds
than domestic poultry.

Hi David,
There is the odd Emu (Emoo) about the place, as you say, mostly 'retirees'
from various farming ventures. There are lots of feral Turkeys on King and
Flinders Islands, and the odd feral Peafowl and Pheasants in places on
mainland Tas. I hadn't come across Turkeys in that situation, though. Are
you sure they couldn't have belonged to a farm somewhere nearby?
