I went for a wander through Toohey Forest this morning to keep and eye out for the Powerful Owls that lurk there [no joy] then headed up Mt Gravatt [through the odd shower]. The summit cafe operated by First Contact opened for the first time shortly before I arrived at 10.30 am. A flock of 30-50 Needletails popped in while I was there, and I took close to 300 photographs over half an hour as they cruised around [periodically appearing and disappearing]. The swifts were, of course, fair easier to photograph when they were floating with broad wings then when they were skimming low with elongated swept back wings.

Given that the cafe is operated by a local indigenous group, the Needletail visit added an auspicious element the opening. However, I'm not sure that anyone else on the summit particularly noticed their attendance.

Regards, Laurie.
