(38º04'S 145º10'E) by Mike Carter, Dawn Neylan, Andrew McCutcheon, David
Stabb, Johnny Loy, Wendy McWilliams & Debbie Lustig on 28 February, produced
79 species, (49 wetland dependant & raptors + 30 non-wetland). Some
highlights were Magpie Goose 1, Cape Barren Goose 1, Common Bronzewing 1,
Nankeen Night-Heron 1, Peregrine Falcon 1, Buff-banded Rail 1, Double-banded
Plover 2, Latham's Snipe 1, Common Sandpiper 2, Pectoral Sandpiper 2 &
Golden-headed Cisticola 55. That was within the highly secured operating
plant area to which there is no public access.
An additional 10 species (7 wetland dependant & raptors, Australian Wood
Duck, White-necked Heron, Australian Hobby, Baillon's Crake, Australian
Spotted Crake, Spotless Crake & Wood Sandpiper and 3 non-wetland, Little
Corella, Yellow-rumped Thornbill & Common Greenfinch were seen on external
wetlands one day during previous week. A total of 89 species counted on
those parts of the ETP covered by these surveys is a very pleasing result.
Photographs of some of these species including the Pectoral Sandpipers taken
by Andrew McCutcheon are posted on Birdline Victoria's Eremaea web site.
