Paul,

Not sure about WW Choughs, but for over 145 species of birds anting has been
documented. See my friend Steve Kacir's presentation:

Cheers,

Hi everyone,

This discussion on Lyrebirds has got me thinking about something that I was
told second-hand recently.

Ruth, my wife, works for a government organisation in Victoria, and gets to
spend a lot of time outdoors with wildlife, especially birds. Anyway, one of
the species that she encounters on a daily basis is White-winged Chough. A
Koori member of staff told her, in passing, that WW Choughs were regarded as
a special bird because they picked up ants and stuck them under their wings
to collect the parasites that the birds picked up.

Can anyone shed any light on the veracity of this statement? If it isn't
true, then does anyone have any idea where the story may have come from?

Thanks!

Paul Dodd
