Wondered if everyone on B-Aus had seen this and if any has any shots for the
project?

Dear All,

Slender-billed Curlew.

Members of OBC will have read the article in BirdingASIA 12 about the
current efforts to seek the species in Asia. We have now received the
following request from the SBCWG to publicise their urgent need for
images of several similar taxa.

QUOTE:

A request for photos from the Slender-billed Curlew Working Group (SBCWG)

As part of the SBCWG's work, investigation is currently being made into
the identification of several forms of Numenius in the Palearctic region
and adjacent areas. The group is therefore seeking photos of the
following taxa:

Numenius tenuirostris
Numenius arquata arquata
N.a. orientalis
N.a. suschkini
Numenius phaeopus alboaxillaris
N.p. variegatus
N.p. hudsonicus
N.p. phaeopus

The races listed above are at least morphologically very similar, while
also being of high conservation concern. Due to a lack of data and
ambiguity associated with Numenius from western Asia in particular,
photos from central Russia, Kazakhstan and western China are particularly
sought. All photos should be sent to , and
correspondence should include any relevant details such as photographer,
date taken and location. Photos should preferably not be manipulated
before sending, although edited photos are also welcome.

Thank you for your help,
Brian Sykes for OBC
