There was a Little Stint in non breeding plumage banded at the sewage
ponds. ID on weight and other measurements. I believe that it was banded
in December. It was given the usual yellow leg flag on the upper right leg
to identify it as being banded in NW Australia.. At the time, it was the
only stint at the sewage ponds. The BBO wardens Nik and Matt have since
only seen one stint at the sewage ponds, and it has always had a YLF and so
it is assumed to be the Little Stint. I believe that it is nearly always
seen in almost exactly the same places. It was there on four of the five
occasions that I visited the sewage ponds on the 17/18 January.
So it is an interesting question about whether you would count it for your
life list, with the ID simply based on the YLF?
This is not quite the same as the Swinhoe's Snipe which has a yellow
engraved leg flag number 31, which obviously identifies the
individual. There have been seven snipe at the sewage ponds for some time,
and one has been positively IDd from Adrian Boyle's photos as a Pin-tailed
Snipe. So if you see seven snipe, would you count Pin-tailed Snipe even if
you were not certain which of the seven that it was (which of the six
actually as the seventh is #31).
