When I saw this bird, I saw the behaviour that others have described as the
plover chasing the black fronted dotterel around. I didn't see it like
that. As I arrived, I saw the plover appearing to chase one dotterel away.
The remaining dotterel and the plover then commenced to play. Running
very quickly in circles, the plover occasionally sitting on ground. Neither
was chasing the other, they ran in unison. One time the plover stopped
behind a sitting pelican and the dotterel ran back seemingly to see where
it had got to-they both then appeared out the other side of pelican running
together. They also went for a flight together. It look all of the world
like mating behaviour. If they were the same species, I think that would
be the most likely conclusion to come to.
No sign of the little stint, although I did see a small brown wader in
another pond but before I could get my scope onto it, it disappeared.
