Yes it's a mess for C I Tourism for sure (and Cocos).
I had a Yellow Wagtail at Learmonth once! and have absolutely nothing else
positive to say about it though Mark Bearman in the window seat going in there
had whale sharks int he bay below the strip!!!!
Cheers

Since the service is underwritten by the government, I suspect it may not be
commercially
viable for one airline, let alone competing airlines.
I read somewhere that National Jet Systems (now Cobham Aviation) declined to
renew the
contract for flight services to Christmas and Cocos Is. - but other articles
says their bid was
unsuccessful. At any rate, the contract was won by Sky Air World, who promptly
went into
administration after their aircraft were repossessed prior to commencing the
service in April
2009. Presumably Virgin Blue are not likely to suffer a similar fate!
The maps on the Virgin Blue website haven't been updated yet, so I'm not sure
if they will be
skipping the Learmonth leg as SkyAirWorld intended to do. (The Embraer jets
have a
greater range than the BAe-146/Avro RJ that NJS uses.)
