Tue 12 Jan Laughing Gull Lord Howe Island
I sighted a subadult Laughing Gull on Lord Howe Island at late
afternoon. I am confident of the sighting, and my picture has been
emailed to a couple of people on the mainland to confirm this sighting.
I don't have access to the image on this computer at the moment.
[Moderator's Note: Even though no confirmation has been received as yet
about the Laughing Gull, this information has been published in the hope
that other observers may be alerted to the presence of this bird].
Ashwin Rudder

Buller's Shearwater and Long-tailed Jaeger Mistral Point,

Eastern Osprey Bilgola Plateau, near Avalon
This afternoon a pair of Eastern Ospreys were flying relatively low over
the Angophora in the reserve, heading east. Then a single Peregrine
Falcon was gliding through the air, fairly close to the ground, swooping
gently on the wind - not at all living up to its fastest bird in the
world reputation.

cicadas! Also 1 Owlet Nightjar heard from the car park at 8:45pm and a
party of 4 Tawny Frogmouths heard and seen in trees on road down, at
about the bend before the car park. (NB - if visiting this site, park
