Hi all
I thought I'd check out this site, where I have seen and heard White Throated Nightjars in previous summers after not making any visits so far this summer (Normal excuses - too busy, too tired, too rainy etc). However, I was not disappointed, with 1 bird seen well hawking over car park for 2-3 mins, approx 8:45pm (35 mins after sunset). Several birds heard were calling from 8:25 - they could have been calling earlier, but would have been drowned out by the cicadas (seems to link nicely to another thread from today!). Also, 1 Owlet Nightjar was heard from the car park at 8:45 and a party of 4 Tawny Frogmouths heard and seen in trees on road down, at about the bend before the car park. NB - if anybody plans on visiting this site, park outside the gates down to the Sphinx, as they are locked at dusk or earlier.
Cheers
Tom Wilson
