Recent NSW Floods: Flows & Allowances

Hello All

Anyone who has recently visited the Lower Murray River region, The Coorong, and 
Lakes Alexandrina and Alberts, would know how badly the river system is in need 
of a good drink. There are reports of cliffs collapsing around Swan Reach and 
Murray Bridge, and the Coorong has just about "had it" and is an embarrassment 
as a recognised RAMSAR site.

Currently, if you were to stand on the western shores of Lake Alexandrina and 
look to the east you could almost be forgiven for believing you could walk 
across the lake to Meningee, some 20kms away. I saw this personally just a week 
ago on a visit to the once fantastic birdwatching spot, Tolderol Game Reserve, 
near Milang, which has now been reduced to dry pits of weeds and there is no 
sign of any future water flows to come to its aid.

Anyway, the main reason for the rant is that after the recent good rains in 
northern New South Wales, unbelievably, that state's government is actual 
considering the notion of hanging onto every last drop and not allowing flows 
to reach South Australia. Surely, this can't be allowed and any such decision 
should not be their responsibility.
