Hi again birders
A stakeout for Malleefowl in SA has been Eremophila Park, a private
sanctuary near Waikerie. For years the owner, Stella Mack would take
birders out there and many people have obtained their first tick of
Malleefowl here. It is here where David Attenborough filmed the
Malleefowl that appear in 'The Life of Birds'. Stella was rightfully
proud of this and she would show visitors photos of her with David
posing by the mound.
Unfortunately, Malleefowl numbers here have been steadily declining
over recent years and there's only been one bird around this season.
On another sad note, Stella Mack recently passed away. I thought
birders who've met her, might like to know. Looks like it's the end of
an era. It is unknown at this stage what will happen to the sanctuary.
