Hi everyone,
Just to lift you out of the gloom of having to go back to work next week
and get you dreaming of further birding adventures....
My favourite birding destination (that is, one centre from which you can
easily access different birding locations), I think, would be Bukit Fraser
in West Malaysia. This is a little town on top of a hill in the middle of
forest, you can walk around the roads bird-watching and walk down off the
hill in various directions. It is also easy to get to with public transport
and you don't need a car. (In Australia think Mt Tambourine).
Anyway, does anyone know of any other locality in Asia similar to Bukit
Fraser? I was thinking perhaps Thailand or India. Must have similar
features:
1. Extensive accessible forest, preferably at different altitudes, with
walking trails/quiet roads
2. Accommodation within walking distance of birding sites
3. Accessible by public transport, no need to hire a car
4. Enough variety to occupy an eager birder for 4-5 days (perhaps also some
open country nearby for open country birds).
Happy New Year everyone, and good birding
John Leonard
