Hi All,
Have just posted some pics of the nest swiftlet seen in Broome, NW WA two days
ago as Cyclone Laurence passed to the west of the town then tracked south-east.
Nest swiftlets are incredibly difficult to identify. Nevertheless, given the
rather square-tipped tail with a very weak notch, Black-nest Swiftlet would
appear to be the most likely candidate.
The best image is in the following gallery of Australian vagrants
http://www.pbase.com/wildlifeimages/vagrants (because it is taxonomic order it
is about 12 rows down)
and all four images are posted here
http://www.pbase.com/wildlifeimages/black_nest_swiftlet
The bird was first found by the guys at the Broome Bird Observatory
(http://www.broomebirdobservatory.com/) and the photographs were taken by
Adrian Boyle.
Cheers,
Rohan
