I used  "A Guide to the Birds of Thailand "  by Lekagul and Round when I 
was living in Thailand.  drawings are mostly OK, though the text and 
illustrations are not always on facing pages.  It does use distribution 
maps, but is Thailand only.  ISBN 974-85673-6-2
You should be able to pick it up at a bookshop in Bangkok or Chiang Mai.
