Dear all

A group of us conducted Regent Honeyeater surveys at Capertee last weekend 17/18 October. No Regents but we saw 29 Plum-headed Finches sitting on a wire fence on a private property on the river - rolls of hay had been left for the cattle and the finches were feeding in this scattered hay. At this site found a raptor nest with a large downy white chick in it - possibly a Little Eagle but during the hour we were in the area, no parents was seen to come to the nest. Wedgies were soaring high in the distance.

Also found a Black-fronted Dotterel sitting on 3 eggs way up Port Macquarie Road.

A small amount of White Box in flower on Dunville Loop was being used by Musk Lorikeets, Noisy Friarbirds, Noisy Miners and Red Wattlebirds. At other sites we heard a few Little Lorikeets flying over.

We stayed at a cottage on Brymair and I found one Speckled Warbler Monday morning 19 Oct in nearby regrowth angophora woodland.

A lovely weekend, lots of birds even though the valley quite dry - a thin green pick on the paddocks.
