ChristinaIt's a Shearwater of some sort - ID is harder as it's sitting on the water and thus jizz in flight can't be used and (on my screen at least) the photo comes up slightly squashed looking. Odds on at present (and based on the numbers I saw on Sunday) that it's a Short Tailed or Wedge Tailed Shearwater. Based on what looks like a longer tail and a thicker bill, I'd go for Wedge Tailed. Often at this time of year there will be individuals for which migration has all been a bit too much and they get pulled inshore while loafing on the water. Cheers Tom Wilson |
