Hi folks,
Just thought I'd summarize the other significant bird sightings from our recent
3 week trip from Bundaberg to Jupiter Well and back (approximately via Bowra,
Winton, Alice Springs, back through Mt Isa), with lots of side excursions!
Going from Jack's Atlas sheets.........
1. Bowra 1 Grey Falcon (not seen by myself because I was at Cunnamulla Hospital
sorting out my piles!) 28 00 07 145 33 03 0800 21/09/09.. Red-browed Pardalote
27 59 16 145 37 44 1500 20/09/09 ....9 Hall's Babblers 27 59 26 145 31 32 0930
21/09/09
2.Winton Boulia Rd Hamilton Channel 1 Black Falcon 22 46 24 140 36 45 1400
23/09/09. Close views to soaring height of an older bird
3. Donahue Hwy Georgina River 2 Grey Falcons 22 53 50 138 53 38 0845 24/09/09.
Spectacular display of probable pair harassing 200 Cockatiels. Almost
twitchable at this location I would think. Wouldn't mind details of where to
send details for Jonny (I think?) Some photos. Also hundreds of Flock
Bronzewings at same location.
4. Gary Junction Rd 1 Black-eared Cuckoo 23 13 25 131 27 00 1115 26/09/09
5 GJR Just a 'brag' atlas this one. Stopped car 4 White-fronted HE, 50 Pied
HE's, 5 Grey-headed HE's, 20 Singing HE's, 200 Budgies, 100 Masked
Woodswallows, 6 White-backed Swallows etc. 22 48 17 126 44 24 1400 27/09/09
6. GJR 30 Flock Bronzewings 22 46 13 127 58 15 0630 30/09/09. I was surprized
to see them fly by ...no water for a long long way at that location. Similar to
others who saw Black swans previously in about the same location.
7. GJR Just for Jack and his atlassing. No birds 22 59 39 128 21 55 1100-1140
30/09/09....seeing no birds for over 20 mins when actively looking for ANYTHING
is tough!
8. Bladensburg NP , Winton 2 Painted HE's, 30 Black HE's 22 33 30 142 37 43
0630-0900 06/10/09 Awesome sighting of a pair of PHE's in close with 8 other HE
species...new for Jack and Karen at the time. Thanks to Jane Barker for the tip
off.
9. Off Bill's Rd (love knowing that they have named a road after me, even if
only 100m long but now sign-posted off Bruce Hwy!), Marmoor 1 Yellow (Dawson)
Chat 23 40 33 150 45 11 1200-1315 07/10/09 This spp of Yellow Chat can be
really tough and should be on all birdrer's to do lists. It is an isolated spp
and could well become a full sp at some stage. It also completed our arid chats
for the trip and offered a new bird on our last day for Karen (as well as nice
photo ops for myself).
We didn't see the ocean on the whole 8000 km's and ended up with 230 species.
Hope this info is of assistance for others chasing great birds,
Bill
