Apropos of the recent discussions here re the NSW Shooters Party's proposals for NP game reserves, ABC Radio National's Background Briefing has run a story on the subject of feral deer. Podcast or stream on-line from here: http://www.abc.net.au/rn/backgroundbriefing/stories/2009/2692791.htm Deer pests Feral deer numbers have exploded in many parts of Australia, and they're chewing through farms and bushland. Farmers and environmentalists want them declared a pest and professionally culled. But in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania deer are protected for hunters wanting some sport. Tensions are rising.
