Hello Joe
I have just returned to Sydney after a wonderful tour of north west
Victoria. I spent from 1 to 5 September in the northern part of Wyperfeld
National Park and saw Major Mitchell's Cockatoos in a number of locations.
The first was a bird flying beside the car as we passed through
Patchewollock on our way into the park, which was a good omen. We stayed in
the O'Sullivan's Pine Plains Lodge, which is located on private property
within Wyperfeld, and a Major Mitchell's Cockatoo came in each day, usually
in the evening, to feed on seeds some 15 metres behind the Lodge. I also saw
a single bird fly over the Casuarina Campground, two at the 'Snowdrift' and
a group of seven in a mixed flock with Galahs on the Jenkins Track.
This was my first trip to this area, and I saw many birds which were lifers
for me. It is a wonderful place, especially at the moment as there has been
some rain, and the park is very green.
best of luck
