Hi Laurie,Grass Owls don't usually (?never) roost in trees but will perch in trees when active at night. Your bird is a Barn Owl. If you lighten up the picture you will see the classic Barn Owl colouration and in particular the black and white spotting on the upperparts. Due to the chocolate brown upperparts of a Grass Owl the spotting appears completely white on that species. The legs aren't long enough either to be Grass Owl. Greg Clancy Ecologist Coutts Crossing |
