Hi CasMy daughter photographed a Pale-headed individual at Murwillumbah in May last year with a lot of red feathers in the breast and head plumage, but I've seen Pale-headeds paired up with Easterns on the north-western slopes of NSW north of Ashford. In that area it is rare to see Pale-headed Rosellas without a few red dots in their head plumage. I've also noticed that the contact / flight calls of Eastern Rosellas occurring in more easterly areas in central NSW change as you move west. Eastern Rosellas in the Lower Hunter Valley (and I presume in the southeast generally) have a "pink-pink.....pink-pink" flight call, while more westerly birds have the "chug-chug......chug-chug" calls (please excuse the call descriptions) similar to the Pale-headed Rosella. Regards Allan |
