Hi bird heads
Speaking of world checklists what is considered the best hard copy list?
Clements? Howard and Moore? Something else?
On another subject I recently purchased Slater's field guide (as a good
back-pocket, easy to carry guide) and couldn't help noticing there are a
number of variations on the standard list and wonder if anyone knows what
the basis is for these variations?
For instance:
Slater splits Shrike tits into 3 distinct species Eastern, Western and
Northern.
Western Whipbird into Mallee and Western.
The Nullarbor Quail-thrush gets a jersey all of its own.
Oddly enough the Myall Grasswren however does not get separated out from the
thick-billed despite evidence that it probably will.
The Tasmanian Scrubwren gets lumped with the White-browed.
The Rufous Fieldwren is split into Western and Rufous.
Rusty-tailed Gerygone from Large-billed.
Mangrove and varied HE are lumped
Any clues?
Cheers
David Kowalick
