I use a Lightforce Portable Power Pack 12V 9AMP with Power Saver about $160,
includes carry bag with shoulder straps and power saver control and battery.
I also use a $10 and $20 spotlights that I picked up from an auto spares
shop. As most of my spotlighting is for frogs and other ground critters, one
spotlight is low powered and I can get over 3 hours use. The other spotlight
is higher power and only used when I hear movement above or hear an owl
calling.
It is always a good idea to go spotlighting with a friend, they can carry a
spare battery or two, and if you have a bunch of friends each carrying a
battery you can spotlight all night.

There are many options and this has been done before on this forum. What
I have used for ten years is an LED head lamp in combination with a 14cm
Lightforce spotlight with a 30 watt globe powered by a 12V 9 amp hour
dry fit battery. Will need a charger for the battery. The head lamp
gives many hours of cheap and efficient light to walk by, night after
night. The spotlight will give about 1.5 hours of powerful spotting
light on this battery but will last much longer if used only as needed.
Might cost a couple of hundred dollars all up though. Alternatively, an
inexpensive LED head lamp and a gazillion candlepower rechargeable torch
for less than $20 from a cheap auto parts place also does the trick. Its
light might only last 20 minutes but used sparingly in combination with
the LED head lamp it can last longer and provide a lot of fun. I had one
that lasted nearly two years and I used it often.

Hi birders,
can anyone reccommend a good portable spotlight and battery system for
owling, keeping in mind that weight is an issue due to not having a
vehicle.
