I'm just back from a trip to central NSW where I was on a bit of a
study tour of the Macquarie Marshes.
Whilst there I observed a family group of Pale-headed Rosellas in the
northern marshes area. The person who owned the property remarked that
these birds are not too uncommon on the property. I would have thought
that this is well south of what is considered their regular range.
Past trips to the region have never yielded Chestnut-crowned Babblers,
but this time I found a patch where quite a number of families were
present.
Also of some interest was a Double-banded Plover on a dam near
Nevertire (just south of Nyngan). Whilst aware that this is not a
unique observation, it's probably not such a common sight that far
inland either.
There's been a bit of rain in those parts of late, which appears to
have given a significant boost to the diversity and abundance. I have
never seen so many Cockatiel, Eastern Rosellas and Superb Parrots in
that locality as I did this week and noted that the White-winged Fairy-
wrens were in full breeding swing.
Happy birding
