Hi Laurie

A good place to start for a map is google maps. Portland Roads is small and there is limited accommodation. This is where tours often stay. It is close to chilli beach where Palm Cockatoo can possibly be seen if you haven't got it by then but it is common in other areas further north. A common place for Fawn-breasted Bowerbird is also close to there near the chili beach turn-off. There is accommodation at the airport in the form of cabins and it is not far from the smugglers tree ( a few kms drive) but you need to head out to the road for general birding as there is not much vegetation around the accommodation. Cook's Hutas mentioned by Laurie is a good place to bird. I camped one campsite back(rainforest) and which is only a few hundred meters away and also got everything walking the road and visiting campsites and it has better creek access. There was a riflebird perch near where the walking track crosses the creek near the rainforest campsite. The stretch of road for a couple of km's where the campsites are is where you will get most things so you will have to drive back if you stay at Portland Roads.

As mentioned by Jon, Lockart River has alcohol restrictions but you are ok on the main road and in the park.

Overall everything is reasonably close but from memory it's about 20 mins from the birding area near cook's hut etc to Portland Roads.

Cheers
Dan Blunt
