Gooday birders
I think that not only birds but other animals are more intelligent than
we give them credit for. Years ago my wife and I were standing on the
lawn in the back yard talking when one of the kids guinea pigs walked
directly to us from the hutch 10 or 15m away. This was a heavily
pregnant, due any day, female. She stopped at our feet and looked up at
us. I picked her up gently, patted and spoke to her and put her back on
the ground again, thinking this was odd. Next day there were four dead
baby guinea pigs in the hutch, apparently dead at birth. Nobody can tell
me she did not know and I am sure she came to us for help.
