I spoke with the WIRES member who rehabilitated and released the Black-necked Stork earlier this year. It was released at Shortland Wetland Centre and after some wading it took flight and disappeared. Approximately four weeks later it returned to the WIRES members house in southern Sydney (about 10kms from where it was captured originally). It was in good condition when it arrived but ate some food over 24 hours and then again took off and has not been seen since. This bird seems determined to stay around the Port Hacking area for some reason.
