Pied Imperial Pigeon

I haven't checked Greg so cannot answer that.

What I do know is the bird turned up on the edge of abating storms over s e Qld / northern NSW over a week or so ago. Whether that's relevant or not I leave open to discussion.

It could even have walked here from Taronga Zoo:-)

As a record it doesn't surprise me at all though given Orange Chat's, Orange-bellied Parrot and other such beasts that have turned up here. As you know PIP's are strong fliers too, regularly crossing water to roost.

I raised the issue of Canada Geese a few years ago as being escapee's and was poo-pooed! I know one bird keeper has since said "he can get me as many as I want"! I declined by the way as I have no where to put them.

Also at the moment there are Cape Barren Geese at Shoalhaven Golf Course (NSW)! Where are these from?

All these records are always subjective and come back to the one real basic premise that holds true the world over:

Is it a tick?

Well, it's a State Tick for me anyway, so it must be OK;-)

Oh by the way, I've always felt birds with wings can go anywhere they want to go!

Cheers

Alan

Hi Alan,

I raised the issue of the potential for this, and the earlier NSW records of the Pied Imperial Pigeon, to be cage escapes with Alan Morris and he said that the earlier records were accepted presumably indicating that they were considered wild birds and not cage escapes. Does anyone know that there aren't captive Pied Imperial Pigeons in NSW?
