We have hired 4wds many times over the past few years, and Australian 4wd
Hire, as mentioned by Bob Way, have been overwhelmingly the best in terms of
service; they drove from Mt. Isa to near Bedourie on one occasson to drag us
out of the mud because the bush shovel they supplied was u/s. No charge!
Some of the big name companies, eg Hertz, just rent out their name to local
operators and do not otherwise have anything to do with the "4wd" company,
Darwin and Alice Springs to mind. The ordinary (non"4wd") parent company
branches do rent out 4wd and allwheeldrive vehicles, at cheaper rates, but with
many more restrictions. The latter are not for the corrugations of the Canning
Stock Route or Mitchell Plateau.
    Horses for courses.
                                Cheers
                                     Michael
