Migratory waders are currently on the move and will be using these oil
affected areas on the way to their migration staging areas. It is
imperative to clean up this mess as soon as possible. As most of the
affected areas are sandy and accessible and therefore more easily
treated, it is a clear case where military logistics should be utilized
to achieve an effective and rapid clean up.
But the uncoordinated and inadequate response from both State and
Federal Governments so far to this major oil spill is quickly building
into a monument of failure. Rather than providing any effective
response to this real environmental disaster, today the Federal
Government occupies itself mainly in the politics of propping up a
doubtful ETS scheme.
Affected wildlife continues to suffer, unlikely to see much relief while
the Federal Minister remains in party mode and although his attention is
otherwise engaged in a good cause

the Government response to this major environmental disaster appears
incompetent and uncaring.

Have seen some footage showing an oil affected godwit in breeding
plumage. Are there any updates on bird impacts affecting migratory
waders from this disaster?
