Gould's "Handbook to the Birds of Australia" (1865):
Strepera graculina and Cracticus picatus are both given as "Pied
Crow-Shrike
J. A. Leach, "An Australian Bird Book", 8th (1945) edition:
Black-backed Magpie, Gymnorhina tibicen. also Piping Crow-shrike
Pied Butcher-Bird Cracticus nigrogularis. also Crow-Shrike
Grey Butcher-Bird Cracticus torquatus. also Crow-Shrike
Cayley, "What Bird Is That?" (1946):
Pied Curawong, Strepera graculina, also called Pied Crow-Shrike
Black-backed Magpie, Gymnorhina tibicen. also Piping Crow-shrike
Pied Curawong, Strepera graculina, appears the best bet. The Magpie-lark
doesn't seem to get a mention among the Crow-shrikes.
