Hi all
I had a couple of short trips out yesterday due to visitors from overseas.
We went to Bobbin Head in Ku-Ring-Gai NP for a short walk and picnic lunch -
most of the usual suspects (Cockies, Currawongs and Ravens), including vocal
Yellow Tufted Honeyeaters on the Gibberagong Track. As we arrived, the Noisy
Miners and Cockatoos were very agitated and I finally found what I think was
the culprit. Sitting in a tree high on the south end of the ridge that the
Kalkari visitor centre sits on was a Wedge Tailed Eagle - a long way off but
very visible as it was on a good open bough.
My visitors were on their Sydney stop over on a World Cruise, so after we had
said our cheerios at Circular Quay, we nipped round to North Head as they
sailed out of the harbour. That gave me a little while to watch the sea birds
as we waited. Plenty of Wedge Tailed Shearwaters, 1 Flesh Footed and 2 Sooties
- none seen that showed very pale undersides all over, so I guess no Streaked
seen. Also 6 Gannets and an excellent Crested Tern diving display on a school
of bait fish just below the end lookout point.
Cheers
Tom Wilson
