It is with profound sadness that I am writing to let you know of the tragic death of my friend and colleague, Dr Richard Zann, his wife and daughter who died in the fires in Kinglake on Saturday. His son Christopher is safe and being cared for by friends. It is our Department's hope to establish an academic prize or scholarship in memory of Richard's profound and lasting contribution to science; in particular ornithology. At this stage we are unable to provide details of funeral or memorial services. I will send a subsequent note around BARD when details of arrangements become clearer.
