Altona has a group of streets, including Lark, Linnet, Wren, Seagull, Dove,
Kookaburra, Robin, Emu, known locally as "the bird cage".

It used to be part of the adjoining Truganina Swamp, interesting that bird
names are chosen by developers consuming bird habitat. (Not sure what state
that habitat was in at the time though.)

Having once worked for a land surveyor, I know that once upon a time new road
names were not necessarily always given a lot of thought, sometimes being left
up to draftsmen/women to think up as they drew the plans. (Quite a few streets
are named after draftsmen/women.)

I think these days councils require them to have some sort of local relevance.
