Genetic analysis has revealed the Hawaiian "honeyeaters" do not belong
to the honeyeater family (Meliphagidae) and instead originated in the
Americas.  Links to write-ups below.

Its the latest in recent changes where Meliphagidae has gained the
australian chats and "Macgregor's Bird of Paradise" but lost some new
guinea species (longbills and pygmy honeyeaters) and some pacific species
(to the white-eyes).
