dear all, yesterday at serendip sanctuary[near geelong, vic]i noticed meat
ants [i think] leaving their nests in winged swarms.sitting very close and
picking them off at will were willy wagtails, spiny cheeked honeyeaters and
white plumed honeyeaters.sitting a bit back but definitely interested were
red and little wattlebirds but these were being chased off by the white plumed
h/e.i had to leave as this was going on at 4.30 or so and apparently serendip
closes at 4pm,whoops.is this normal for these birds to get stuck into ants?on
the way out i just about had a head on with a brown goshawk,i'm not sure
who was more surprised,it seemed to be interested in the sparrows around
the admin building and then in the welcome swallows. regards alan
