I was at Southport, on the Gold Coast, this morning and decided to take
the opportunity to check the Broadwater for the Eurasian Curlews seen
there earlier this month. On the mud banks opposite between 400 and 500
Marine Parade, Labrador there were 4 species of large waders, Eastern
Curlew, Godwits, Whimbrels and another represented by one individual
that had a downcurved beak. It was smaller than the Eastern Curlew but
larger than the Whimbrel so was possibly a Eurasian Curlew. I was using
a scope but it was about 200-300m away so I was unable to see any other
details. All 4 species were reasonably close together so it was easy to
make the size comparison.
Has anyone else seen them recently?
