Dear All,

For the last couple of years I have been regularly seeing a Buff- banded Rail in a reserve on the shore of Tuggerah Lake at Gorokan on the NSW Central Coast. I stopped off at the reserve on the way home from the shops this afternoon, to see what was about, not expecting to see much because of the weather. I was happy to see the BBR scratching around in the sea-grass wrack on the shoreline. I was then delighted to see it joined by three well grown chicks which scooted out of the Phragmities bed around the out-fall of a small storm-water drain. I was also amazed that they had survived to the size they are ( probably near half grown) as the site is surrounded by houses and the reserve is used as an off-leash exercise and toilet area (illegally) by local dog owners.

I will be keeping an eye on the family and will report on the progress of the chicks.

Cheers,

Carl Clifford
