Dear All,

People who think that distance is any protection against House Crows setting up home in Australia should try telling the good burghers of Hoek van Holland in the Netherlands, where there is now a healthy breeding colony. I think I could safely say that they did not get there under their own steam. Hoek van Holland is part of Rotterdam, the largest port in Europe if not the world. The House Crow is also well established in Singapore, the largest port in Asia, so that it would not be difficult to conclude that there could be a bit of HC traffic between the two, mainly one way.

A good number of ships come to Australian ports from Singapore every year(around 50%), as Singapore is the world shipping hub for Asia. The amount of transhipping there is amazing. The chances of a mixed sex group of HCs reaching Australia by ship is very high and probably inevitable. The arrival of HCs in Australia is inevitable. They have already made their way eastwards to Java and there are some reports from Bali. So how long before they come over Torres Strait?
