Trounson Kauri Reserve north of Dargaville is a good place to see Northern
Brown Kiwi. Kauri Coast Top 10 Holiday Park +64-9-439 0621 organises nightly
guided excursions which concentrate on looking for kiwi in the park. I've
been there twice and was successful once, getting great views. You need to
book in advance and would probably want to stay overnight in one of the
cabins at the holiday park as there is not much other accommodation. The
cabins are very comfortable (see their website).
You need to overnight on Tititiri to see the Little Spotteds (advance
booking required). Alternatively, arrange to stay on Kapiti Island at the
nature lodge

Minnie on their website who will arrange).

We're going to the North Island in a couple of weeks and naturally
want to see Kiwis. We're going to Tiritiri Matangi Island, so we may
be able to see a Lesser Spotted, but we would also like to look for
Brown Kiwis. Can anyone recommend a good spot in the north half of the
North Island, or a guide who takes people out to see them.
