Hi John,

there is a group of eight of us heading up there this Christmas for 8 days.  We
are flying in to Lockhart River Aboriginal Community with Skytrans, hiring a
troop carrier locally and staying at Portland Roads.  The adjacent cafe is
catering for us. I have camped up there previously during the dry season, this
time we are staying at http://www.portlandhouse.com.au/ ;

You would be a brave man to try to drive from Weipa across to Iron Range in the
wet season!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers,

Carl

Hi All,
We are trying to make some plans for 12 months or more in advance.

I wonder if someone can tell me, what is the best way to go birding in the Iron
Range area, North Queensland, in the Wet season, without spending TOO much
money? Is there a flight in? Is that the most reliable? Is it possible to fly
into Weipa and drive across? What is Accommodation like? Are there organised
(birding) tours at that time of year?
So many questions! So little knowledge!

Any advice gratefully received, and hopefully able to be incorporated into t
trip fairly well down the track.
Thanks,
John Tongue
