We recently had a need to have one of our Leica Binoculars repaired by
Adeal. While it is not appropriate to go into details, after a little
gentle persuasion from us, the problem was fixed at no cost to us and we can
only recommend that Leica's 30 year warranty be pursued strongly and you
will probably be well pleased with the outcome!

Dear Euan I see others have pointed you in the right direction for your
repairs. You should expect that the repairs will be covered by warranty and
if they try to charge, you could point out that their major competitor has a
fabulous customer service policy! I have a pair of Swarovski EL 10x42s
which are now 4 years old. Not quite as long in the tooth as yours but very
well used. They have been back twice for a holiday in Austria. The last
time was a few months ago because of 1) a minor out of focus issue; and 2)
because my darling 15 year old lad had decided to jump off a very tall cliff
with them round his neck!!! He landed very heavily in sand with the result
that both lenses were covered in very fine scratches. I was bereft because
I could not see that the problem could be fixed and if it could expected to
pay a fortune.
The note that went with the bins clearly identified the cause of the
scratches and indicated that if they could be repaired I did not expect this
to be covered by the warranty. Back they came 6 weeks later with not a
scratch to be seen and at no charge to me! Must admit I was very impressed
- not to mention thrilled! Interestingly the life time warranty for Zeiss
is not worth the paper it is written on - we spent well over $2000 having
ours regularly realigned which should have been covered by warranty but
wasn't and as a result Zeiss will never get our custom back.
If you buy top of the range bins, you should get top of the range service
and I would be very interested to know whether you get any or all of the
repairs covered by warranty.
