Hi all

As mentioned in a separate post I did a quick trip to the Hawkesbury
Swamps on the morning of Sat Nov 8 - mainly Bushell's Lagoon from about
0745 to 0900.
Bird numbers were the lowest I've seen in a while, with ducks
particularly scarce. The only ducks in any number were a few dozen Grey
Teal, with smaller numbers of Black Ducks, Black Swan, 4 Chestnut Teal,
a few Hardheads and 2 Aust Shoveller. Over a hundred Coot were present,
the only species in any real numbers. Darter numbers were down to around
10. Other notable sightings included 4 Great Crested Grebe, the resident
White-bellied Sea Eagle, Whistling Kites, a single Brown Quail, and an
obliging Baillon's Crake feeding in the open for a few minutes. Zebra,
Double-barred and Goldfinch, Golden-headed Cisticola, Little Grassbird
and Clam Reed-warbler were all vocal and conspicuous.
Plenty of Rufous Songlarks were at the Cornwallis area flats.
Several White-necked Herons are in the Glossodia/East Kurrajong area on
small roadside dams.
A Pacific Baza was seen in Kurrajong Hills last week, our first local
sighting in several months.

Eric
